Weasleys’ Dragon Roasted Nuts | Harry Potter

If a miniature dragon in a wizarding vending machine was to roast nuts and pop them out to you, this is what the nuts would taste like.

Next to Weasleys' Wizard Wheezes, you'll find the vending machine for 'Dragon Roasted Nuts'. Now make them at home for your Harry Potter party. We've also provided free printable packaging so you can give them as party favors!

Weasleys’ Dragon Roasted Nuts was a coin machine outside the Weasley store found on Diagon Alley. How cute is that! The dragon roasted chestnuts, but since they weren’t easily available (both the dragon and the chestnuts) when I went to the shops, we opted for almonds roasted in our oven. This sweet concept was found in the Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince movie, but wasn’t mentioned in the book.

Dragon Roasted Nuts vending machine in Diagon Alley outside Weasleys Wizard Wheezes

The packaging was designed based off of the machine seen at The Making of Harry Potter, and printed onto brown paper sandwich bags. I’ve turned the design upside down (I’ve make the design available to download for free at the bottom of this page), as I printed with the bottom of the bag first. I found the printer could grab hold of the bag’s bottom better than the top (because it could open and tear).

The nuts recipe is a mix of spices, but with a good kick of cayenne and chilli. The chilli will add that ‘heat’,  like a dragon has recently roasted them.

Ingredients
  • ½ tsp ground cumin
  • ½ tsp cayenne pepper
  • ½ tsp ground cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp chilli powder
  • 3 tsp brown sugar
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 cup almonds
  • 1 egg white
Instructions
  1. Preheat your oven to 250F/120C.
  2. On a baking tray, lay out a sheet of baking paper on top (or oil it. The almonds can really stick!)
  3. In one bowl, mix together your spices, sugar and salt.
  4. In another bowl, beat the egg white a few times.
  5. Add the almonds to the egg white, and using a fork, stir until all the almonds are coated.
  6. Transfer the almonds to the spice mix. I'd transfer using my clean hands, as I often have leftover egg white in the bowl.
  7. Using a fork, stir the almonds in the spice mix until fully coated.
  8. Transfer the coated almonds to the baking tray, and spread the almonds out, so they're not overlapping each other.
  9. Bake in the oven for about 50 minutes. You can cook them at a higher temperature, but only if you're watching them closely. They burn easily!

Thats so cute. I love the little bags that it comes in, haha. Gives me an idea for a DIY if I was making nuts and wanted some cool little baggies for them 🙂

A friend made these for a Harry Potter party we had. They’re so good. Like I just want to keep eating them. Just the right amount of sweet and spicy. Great recipe. Can’t wait to try making them myself.

    Hi Bryt,

I am super excited to make this for a HP night with friends!!

Do you have instructions on how to print directly onto the paper bags? Do you tape it to the middle of a paper? Do you feed the bag alone in the center? Any instructions would be greatly appreciated!

      Hi Trista,
I fed the bag by itself through the printer, but I made sure the closed end went through first so it didn’t snag.

Did you just put the bag through your printer? What print settings did you use?

Yup, just through the printer on normal settings. Just need to make sure the bag goes through from the closed end first so it doesn’t catch.

What a Halloween that was! 🎃 Incredibly gratef What a Halloween that was! 🎃
Incredibly grateful that we were able to celebrate, even though we did things a little differently.
With a spider theme in mind, my parent's house was covered with a mixture of white weed mat and cheesecloth. The faux spiderweb material we only used on branches, since the darn stuff is sticky and a nightmare to remove! 🕷️🕸️
Kudos to mom who did the majority of the work, adding in faux dead leaves, branches and trees, turning springtime into one magical night of autumn. Dad was in charge of sound effects and lighting.
Typically we hide as characters or creatures in the garden which slows the kids as they come up to the door, giving them time to look around. They can never tell if something is going to move or not!
Being 2020 though, the 'tension' of coming up to the house was broken because the witches were outside. We placed ourselves at a table with an entrance and exit pathway, reminding them to "stay one broomstick apart"! Let's hope next Halloween we're back to 'normal'. We'll have to make up with some extra scares! 🎃 📸 Photos by our Halloween photographer, dad 😉

'That' Sleepy Hollow scarecrow was the inspiration 'That' Sleepy Hollow scarecrow was the inspiration for our yard haunt back in 2016. Of course, we had to have him in a field of cornstalks... a tricky task when you live in Australia and it's actually coming into springtime! Dried banana leaves, with its leaves shredded, were tied to old stick fencing. Lit from below, you would've believed the headless horseman was somewhere nearby. 🎃 #halloweenyardhaunt #Halloween

Decorating is a celebration of autumn and October- Decorating is a celebration of autumn and October- a small action that makes an ordinary moment meaningful. It's our way of acknowledging, enjoying, being excited, even grateful, for 'right now'. In years like this one, where we can find ourselves wishing for 2020 to be over, it can be even more important for these moments. ⁣
So instead of focusing on how I found myself time-warped from early September to the end of October, I'm going to simply celebrate the best week of October.⁣
⁣
200 years ago, Washington Irving published his short story, The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. Some homemade decorations like a Sleepy Hollow sign, faux 'cornstalks' mixed with some storebought decorations have my house filled with October vibes to celebrate the bicentennial. 🎃⁣

Mixing up a batch of Bilbo’s buttered scones is an easy way to start the morning off right (and doable before work). I’ve also jumped back onto Youtube to make these alongside you, but- and I guess this reflects the year- I’m changing up my approach to videos. I’ve relaxed my style, and slowed my pace to capture the comfort of baking and cooking that I love so much. #lotr #lordoftherings #thehobbit #thelordoftherings #tolkien #jrrtolkien #middleearth #hobbitday #bookworm #hobbitweek #foodinliterature #bilbobaggins
