“‘We is now having a swiggle of this delicious frobscottle and you will see the happy result.’ The BFG shook the bottle vigorously. The pale green stuff fizzed and bubbled.”

“And oh gosh, how delicious it was! It was sweet and refreshing. It tasted of vanilla and cream, with just the faintest trace of raspberries on the edge of the flavour. And the bubbles with wonderful. Sophie could actually feel them bouncing and bursting all around her tummy.”

The BFG's Frobscottle

Nothing gets me more than when I come across recipes for food in books, and the recipe is far off from the description in the book, you’re left thinking, why?!?!?! Granted I’ve been known to have to tweak bits and pieces, but at the end if the day, we’re here to create recipes that help us imagine the book more.

So let’s take The BFG’s Frobscottle and see if we can finally make a drink that matches the description.

So breaking it down, the drink needs to be:

  • Pale green
  • Sweet
  • Taste of vanilla and cream
  • Hint of raspberries
  • Bubbly

Taste of vanilla and cream? Let’s make creaming soda as the base flavour. This’ll give it the sweetness as well.

Since we need to keep it pale green, the raspberry flavour will need to be in drop form, not actual raspberries, which will throw the colour off.

Fizz and bubble? I’m thinking adding some extra pop rocks in on top of soda water.
