Hogwarts Herbology Bathroom Decor [Harry Potter]

If you’re looking for a reason to buy some indoor plants, here’s one. With some free printables and a few plants, you can turn your bathroom into a Hogwarts greenhouse to look like it’s ready for Professor’ Sprout’s next Herbology class!

Start by choosing your frame.

Ikea has the DYNAN open storage unit that fits above the toilet.
I used Kmart’s black shelving unit.
Don’t forget to secure your frame! If you have pets or kids, it’s easy for them to climb and topple. Furniture safety anchors or straps are a must in this case.

Choose your Herbology plants.

If you have kids or pets, use ASPCA’s toxic and non-toxic plants list to decide what is safe to keep in your house.
Looking for herbology-like plants? Pay attention to succulents. With unusual colours, shapes and structure, they look like something growing in one of the Hogwarts greenhouses.

Remember storage.

There’s a lot going on in this space, so you’ll want to keep in mind where you’re going to store those bits and pieces. MDF book boxes can be turned into textbooks that hide small items, or a stack of pots and planters can be used for additional hideaways.

Add in the detail.

To make this easy, I whipped up a few free printables for you. Use your preferred method of transferring images, be it iron-on transfer paper or Mod Podge, to transfer the image.

Herbology gardeners soap packaging. Shrinking down the size and transferring the image to little cloth bags meant gorgeous guest soap. Printed on a larger size, the image was transferred to the pot. Flesh-eating slug repellent toilet spray. In a vintage plant mister (I purchased mine at Kmart), mix together 1/4 cup rubbing alcohol or vodka, a mix of essential oils (I used a mix of rosemary, white fir, cedarwood, orange, lime and bergamot that made up ~30 drops) and top with distilled water. A few spritzes in the toilet, before use and after flushing, will keep your bathroom smelling fresh. [Click to download the Flesh-eating slug repellent label here. Dragon dung compost bin label. Transfer this label to either your garbage bin or the toilet paper bin to make even the mundane item fit right in with the Herbology decor. Hogwarts Herbology planter label. With all those plants in your ‘greenhouse’, how will you remember what you planted?! I’ve made two labels available, one with the Sedum Rubrotinctum label (the jelly bean succulent), and another with a blank space so you can put your own text on. Moroccan lantern. Taking inspiration from the Harry Potter set photography, finish off your bathroom with a Moroccan lantern. Whether you make this your actual light or include a motion sensor night light for those midnight wanders to the bathroom, it’ll be the final authentic touch for your Herbology decor.
