  • 4 apples
  • 812 cloves
  • 1/2 cup raw (course) sugar
  • peel from one lemon, finely chopped
  • 1/2 cup red wine


  1. Preheat your oven to 200-220°C/400-425° F.
  2. Wash and core your apples, discarding the centre.
  3. Place the apples in a baking tray.
  4. Pour the raw sugar over the apples, then the red wine.
  5. Top each apple with 2-3 cloves per apple, and a little bit of peel.
  6. Place in the oven for one hour.
  7. Remove from the oven.
  8. Any excess syrup, pour into a small jug and spoon over the apples once served.
