I get up at 4:30 a.m. and start lifting so I will be done with my workout by kickoff, and when I finally come up from the basement, the house smells like crabby snacks, three-meats pizza, and buffalo wings. “Smells good,” I say to my mom while I put on my trash bag, and then I’m out the door for a ten-mile run.

Beer and tv night food.
There’s something about buffalo wings that other meals don’t have. We enjoy it more because we touch the buffalo wings with our fingers before you eat them. You feel their heat, smell the spice and you begin savouring them before it even reaches your mouth. Which then turns from savouring to devouring. It becomes a race on how fast you can eat them before your brain catches up with your stomach and goes whoa, too much. Your face becomes a mess and your fingers have to be constantly licked to be cleaned.
And the rule– paper towels are for wiping face and fingers at the end only.
Buffalo wings are also very much Super Bowl Sunday food. Which is two weekends away!
I’ll use any excuse to celebrate, and I happen to love the Super Bowl. Whether you’re in the US or across the water, do you make a party of it? Do you have everyone over? What foods are your go-tos? I’d love to know!
- ¼ cup butter, melted
- ¼ cup hot sauce
- pinch of ground pepper
- 1 garlic cloves minced
- ½ cup flour
- ¼ tsp smoked paprika
- good pinch of salt
- pack of chicken wings, plucked of excess feathers, washed and patted dry
- blue cheese dressing
- Mix together the smoked paprika, flour and salt in a large bowl. Toss in the wings and coat well.
- Use half the sauce, coat the wings.
- Grill for ~10 minutes each side, until the skin is sizzling and turning a dark colour.
- Pour the other half of the sauce over the wings before serving with sliced celery sticks and blue cheese dressing.
